Honorable Bruce Landsberg, Vice Chairman, National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB)

Bruce Landsberg was sworn in as Vice Chairman of the National Transportation Safety Board on August 7, 2018, to become its 43rd Member.

Before coming to the NTSB, Vice Chairman Landsberg was with the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association from 1992 to 2014 where he served as executive director of the Air Safety Foundation until 2010, and then as president of the AOPA Foundation and Air Safety Institute until he retired in 2014. Under his leadership the organization received international recognition and numerous awards for promoting light aircraft safety. During his AOPA tenure he conducted countless safety seminars and wrote a monthly column on aviation safety for its magazine, AOPA Pilot.

Early in his aviation career, Vice Chairman Landsberg worked for Cessna Aircraft Company in Wichita, Kansas, where he promoted general aviation through the management of their Air Age Education Department. He also worked as an associate editor for Flying magazine before moving to FlightSafety International as their first product marketing manager. In addition to promoting the benefits of simulator training there, he developed an airline pilot transition program for first officer candidates through close collaboration with numerous regional airlines.

After graduating from college, Vice Chairman Landsberg was commissioned in the U.S. Air Force and served as a missile launch officer for the Minuteman III ICBM in North Dakota where his training in nuclear weapons provided a strong grounding in safety principles and procedures. After leaving the military, he became an active flight instructor and taught for three years while putting himself through graduate school, earning a master’s degree in industrial technology from the University of Maryland.

He has served on many government committees promoting aviation safety, including assignments as industry co-chair for runway safety, the General Aviation Joint Steering Committee and NASA’s Aviation Safety Reporting System. He has also served on college advisory boards and was a long-time judge for the National Air Traffic Controllers Association’s Archie League Award, which recognizes ATC controllers’ lifesaving efforts to pilots in distress.

Vice Chairman Landsberg owns a Beechcraft Bonanza that he flies for business and pleasure. He has more than 7,000 hours of flight experience and holds an Air Transport Pilot certificate with instructor ratings for airplane single and multi-engine land, instruments, and advanced/ instrument ground instructor certificates. He also sailed a variety of boats for more than three decades.

Vice Chairman Landsberg and his wife, Jan, make their home in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, and keep an apartment in the Washington, D.C.

Sergio Rojas, Holistic Health Coach, Functional Movement Specialist and Certified Nutrition Specialist

Sergio has over 21 years of experience as a holistic health coach, personal trainer and nutritionist. In addition to working with dozens of professional athletes, CEO’s and celebrities, Sergio has also developed and implemented a variety of wellness, safety and productivity programs for many corporations and community organizations.

Sergio’s extensive experience in functional movement, cellular nutrition and workspace wellness, coupled a degree in psychology, provide a well-rounded and effective approach to healthy transformations for both individuals and organizations.

Sergio’s media experience includes 11 years as the Fitness & Wellness Expert for NBC5 in Chicago, appearances on the Today Show, MTV2’s Battlegrounds and was a finalist featured trainer for the Dr. Oz Show. He has also written for national publications including Men’s Fitness Magazine and ESPN Teen.

Sergio is currently a corporate health consultant and is working with Hirschbach Motor Lines in Dubuque, Iowa developing health programs for truck drivers. Additionally, Sergio is the former Strength & Conditioning Coach for the WNBA’s Chicago Sky and the former Executive Director of President’s Council on Fitness, Sports and Nutrition.

David L. Harkey, President Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and the Highway Loss Data Institute

David L. Harkey is president of the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and the Highway Loss Data Institute. Before taking the helm at IIHS-HLDI in 2018, Dr. Harkey, an engineer by training, led the University of North Carolina Highway Safety Research Center for 11 years. There he directed numerous projects to develop tools and strategies for enhanced safety analysis, improve safety data for researchers and decision makers, and develop training materials for safety practitioners.

Dr. Harkey’s own research has focused on improving roadway design and operations for all users, including motorists, pedestrians and bicyclists. He has led major research programs and projects for the Federal Highway Administration, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and other public agencies throughout his career and published numerous technical reports and peer-reviewed articles on road safety.

Dr. Harkey received a doctorate in civil engineering from North Carolina State University and a master’s degree and bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. He is actively involved in several professional organizations, including the Transportation Research Board and the Institute for Transportation Engineers.

Faye Caldwell, Attorney at Law, Caldwell Everson PLLC

Faye Caldwell is the managing partner of Caldwell Everson PLLC, an employment and drug testing law practice in Houston, Texas. Faye has more than two decades of experience counseling and defending clients across the drug testing industry, including employers, collectors, MROs, TPAs, and HHS-certified laboratories, and appears as legal counsel on behalf of her clients in both state and federal courts across the country. Faye provides specialized legal representation and advice in all areas of this law, including: pre-litigation disputes, trial and appeals, administrative proceedings, reviewing, drafting, and revising drug and alcohol testing policies and procedures, and guidance and representation regarding third-party requests for testing information and records. Faye is also a member of the federal Drug Testing Advisory Board, is a Board member of the Substance Abuse Program Administrator’s Association and a frequent speaker on drug testing topics.

In her practice, Faye frequently works closely with toxicology and other industry experts regarding the scientific and technological processes involved in drug testing and brings with her a breadth of scientific and legal knowledge that is necessary to a comprehensive understanding of the complicated intricacies and issues that arise in workplace drug testing.

Additionally, Faye consults with laboratories regarding drug testing compliance, providing expertise and eliciting testimony in federal and state agency proceedings, and conducting pre-inspection audits of HHS certified laboratories. She also regularly provides clients with guidance regarding SAMHSA, DOT, and state law substance abuse testing and is a member of the Drug Testing Advisory Board.
